Singapore Student Visa FAQs for UAE Residents

Answers to the questions applicants ask most.

1. What is the Singapore Student's Pass?

The Student's Pass is issued by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to international students studying full-time at approved institutions. Your institution registers you first, and you then complete the application online.

2. Can I apply from Dubai?

Yes. UAE residents apply once their institution has registered them on SOLAR+. You complete the online form, pay the fee and finish the formalities, with an in-principle approval letter issued after approval.

3. What is SOLAR+?

SOLAR+ is ICA's online system for Student's Pass applications. Your institution submits your details first, then you log in to complete eForm 16, upload documents and pay the processing fee.

4. How much does the Student's Pass cost?

Published guidance quotes a processing fee of S$30 to S$45, an issuance fee of S$60 and S$30 for a multiple-journey visa where required. Confirm the current amounts on the ICA website.

5. How long does the process take?

Published estimates range from about two to four weeks, and ICA advises applying two to three months before your course starts. Peak periods can take longer.

6. Do I need a medical examination?

You may need to submit a medical examination report before the pass is issued. It can be done in your home country or in Singapore by a qualified doctor, so follow your institution's instructions.

7. Can I work while studying in Singapore?

Students at approved institutions can work up to 16 hours per week in term and full-time in vacations without a separate work pass. Students at many private institutions have no automatic work rights.

8. Which institutions count as approved for work?

The Ministry of Manpower lists approved institutions, which include the main universities and polytechnics. Check the current list before you assume you can work.

9. What is the MOE Tuition Grant?

It reduces tuition for eligible students but requires you to work in Singapore for three years after graduation. Read the bond terms carefully before you accept.

10. Can I stay after I graduate?

There is no dedicated post-study work visa. Graduates need an employer to sponsor an Employment Pass or S Pass, and the Student's Pass is cancelled soon after your course ends.

11. Can my family join me?

Family members have limited options and generally need their own pass, often linked to a work pass. Check eligibility before you travel.

12. Can I extend my Student's Pass?

Your pass follows your programme, and you renew it through your institution if your studies continue. You cannot extend it after you graduate.

13. Do I need health insurance?

Institutions usually require medical insurance for international students, and hospital coverage can be important in Singapore. Ask your institution what it requires.

14. What if my application is rejected?

ICA will notify you, and you may be able to appeal through your institution. Review the reasons with an advisor before you respond.

15. Can Visatrix Global guarantee my student visa?

No. Visatrix Global is an independent advisory firm. Only the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority decides whether a visa or pass is granted, and no consultant can guarantee approval or processing times. We help you shortlist courses and prepare an accurate, well-organised application.
